The Fisher River community is proud to announce the official Grand Opening of the Ka pah pak Women’s Transitional Housing Shelter, a beacon of light for women seeking refuge from violence and abuse.

Named after the Cree word for “Butterfly,” the Ka pah pak program signifies a journey of transformation and empowerment, enabling women and their children to transition to a life of beauty and safety. This vital initiative is part of the Programming offered by the First Nation Healing Centre, dedicated to providing a sanctuary for those in need.

Katina Cochrane, the executive director of a new transitional shelter for women in Fisher River Cree Nation, speaks to CBC’s Brittany Greenslade about the importance of the new facility and the programs it will offer.
